A Campus Conversation

Location

Library and Gallery, Albin O. Kuhn : 7th Floor

Date & Time

February 28, 2023, 12:00 pm1:00 pm

Description

Please join us for an open campus conversation on inclusive excellence.

Spend just an hour of your time to help us meaningfully shape the future of our university.

We want to hear your perspective on what inclusive excellence means at UMBC, where we have fallen short on realizing our goals of inclusive excellence, and how we will, as a community, define inclusive excellence moving forward.

In a recent article from the Chronicle of Higher Education, inclusive excellence is, at its most general, defined as a "framework for thinking about equity, diversity, belonging, and student success in higher ed, and how colleges can tackle those challenges"

But what does it mean to you? What does it mean at UMBC?

These will be our guiding questions:

1. What achievements and core values within the concept of inclusive excellence should we celebrate and nurture?

2. What challenges might hinder our ability to advance our mission and vision of inclusive excellence?

3. What are your bold aspirations for the future of UMBC’s definition of inclusive excellence?

This discussion is hosted by the subcommittee on Inclusive Excellence, chaired by Tamara Bhalla, Associate Professor, American Studies and Belay Demoz, Professor, Physics.

Lunch will be served, please plan to arrive a few minutes early for food service.
