Description

Please join Orianne Smith and Carole McCann on Friday, March 31, and Friday, April 21, for a breakfast book discussion of An Inclusive Academy: Achieving Diversity and Excellence by Abigail J. Steward and Virginia Valian

Book Summary: Most colleges and universities embrace the ideals of diversity and inclusion, but many fall short, especially in the hiring, retention, and advancement of faculty who would more fully represent our diverse world—in particular, women and people of color. In this book, Abigail Stewart and Virginia Valian argue that diversity and excellence go hand in hand and provide guidance for achieving both.

Note: The focus on inclusive teaching will continue after the Friday, April 21 meeting with the Provost’s Teaching and Learning Symposium from 12 – 3:30. The symposium will be held in the Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena. [Registration is required: REGISTER HERE].
